Before building the Obelisk, Carl and I experimented with wearable LED devices. One of our prototypes was these flexible strips of LEDs that strap onto your arms. Each arm has 40 LEDs, and on the fingertips and shoulders are very high intensity tricolor (RGB) LEDs. Six pushbuttons, attached to the fingers with velcro, change patterns, timing, colors, brightness, etc.
The device is designed for dancing and moving around. The controller can measure how fast one of the buttons is tapped, so you can tap the button to two beats in the music around you, and it'll subdivide the beat interval and synchronize the patterns to the music.
